Grade 1 winner Outofthebox, retired in June with a fractured cannon bone, has been sold to stand at Sez Who Thoroughbreds near Ocala, Fla., for $7,500. A partnership including Becky Thomas, Lewis Lakin, Briggs & Cromartie Bloodstock, Sez Who owner Dick Simon, and Ocala Stud owner Mike O'Farrell announced Monday that they have privately purchased Outofthebox from Richard, Bert, and Elaine Klein and will syndicate him. . . . Owner and breeder John Franks will reduce his bloodstock holdings this year, starting with an auction of 88 Franks Farm yearlings on Aug. 19 in Ocala, Fla., at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company. The yearling sale will be the first in a three-phase reduction process that will continue at the OBS fall mixed sale in October and at OBS juvenile auctions throughout 2003. . . . Susan Bunning was unanimously elected president of Kentucky's Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association by the organization's board of directors. Bunning, a Thoroughbred owner, replaces Dr. Alex Harthill, who resigned last week. . . . The dispersal of Diane Perkins's Wimborne Farm breeding stock on Saturday in Paris, Ky., sold 83 lots for a total of $3,268,700, for an average price of $39,382. David Plummer purchased the one-day auction's sale-topper, the broodmare La Gueriere carrying a foal by Louis Quatorze, for $610,000.
