Karl N. Hawkins, a feed dealer and racehorse owner at racetracks in Detroit, Louisiana, Illinois, and Florida, died Sunday in Eustis, Fla., at age 92. Hawkins owned a farm in Covington, La., in the 1970's and operated a feed company, Hawkins Corporation, until his retirement in 1980. . . . A longtime Thistledown owner and trainer, Hector Sabala, died at his home in Belize at age 76 on June 20 following a bout with prostate cancer. Sabala began his career as a groom for the late Bill Russell in the mid-1950's and trained at Thistledown until last year.
