The Maryland Jockey Club plans to begin distributing simulcasts from racetracks in four South American countries on Dec. 9, the group announced Wednesday. The signals, from Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru, will be attached to the end of the live cards from Laurel and Pimlico. . . . Dr. Dean Richardson, the veterinarian in charge of treatment for injured Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has been named the 2006 winner of the Big Sport of Turfdom by the Turf Publicists of America. The title is awarded those who enhance coverage of Thoroughbred racing through cooperation with the media and race publicists.
