Hallandale Beach, Fla., has approved a plan by Magna Entertainment Corp. and Forest City Enterprises for development of part of Gulfstream Park property. Magna said in a release that work on the project, planned to include 375,000 square feet of shops and 70,000 square feet of office space, will begin in the spring. . . . Hawthorne canceled live racing Thursday because of winds up to 40 mph. All the day's races were to be brought back as "extras" in coming days. . . . Heavy rain, high winds, and tornado warnings caused Penn National and Charles Town to cancel live racing Thursday night. . . . Early nominations for the 2007 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park close Nov. 22. The $625 fee includes eligibility to not only the Grade 1 Florida Derby on March 31, but also the Grade 2 Swale and Grade 3 Holy Bull on Feb. 3, and the Grade 2 Hutcheson and Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on March 3. . . . The Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund's latest charitable contributions came to a total of $327,000 in grants and pledges. The recipients were organizations involved in Minnesota's horse industry, responsible gaming programs, and the local community. . . .
