William S. Farish, an owner-breeder who with his family operates Lane's End Farm, was named a Keeneland trustee Wednesday. He succeeds James E. Bassett III, who announced his retirement after serving as a trustee since 1993. . . . Broadway Joan, dam of 1991 Irish 2000 Guineas winner Fourstars Allstar and the popular stakes winner Fourstardave among eight other winners from 13 foals, was euthanized in August at age 27 at Lantern Hill Farm in Midway, Ky., because of complications of old age. Broadway Joan, who was buried on the farm property, was a New York-bred mare by Bold Arian out of the Wakefield Tower mare Courtneys Doll. . . . According to figures released Tuesday by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and Equibase, North American parimutuel handle decreased 0.18 percent during the third quarter of 2006 compared with the same period in 2005, and aggregate purses rose 2.25 percent.
