Dr. Joseph O'Dea, a prominent equine veterinarian and New York Thoroughbred breeder, died July 12 at age 85. O'Dea, who had owned Roscommon Stud in Geneseo, N.Y., with his wife, Nancy, who died July 1, was a past president of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders who helped develop a New York-bred awards program in the mid-1960's. . . . Sackatoga Stable, owner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby winner, Funny Cide, has formed Sackatoga Stable LLC in partnership with Ed Mitzen. A percentage of purses earned by Sackatoga LLC racehorses will be contributed to organizations serving retired racehorses, backstretch workers, and disabled jockeys.
