A yearling Pivotal colt sold for about $1.79 million Monday at day one of the Japan Racing Horse Association's three-day summer auction at the Northern Horse Park on Hokkaido. Nobutaka Tada purchased the colt, out of Veil of Avalon, a Grade 3 winner by Thunder Gulch, from Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm. . . . Tom Durkin, the New York Racing Association's track announcer and voice of the Breeders' Cup since it began in 1984, will be the keynote speaker at the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Aug. 7. The Hall's three 2006 inductees are trainer Carl Hanford, who guided Kelso to five consecutive Horse of the Year awards; Bill Boland, a standout jockey in the 1950's and 1960's; and turf champion Cougar II.
