Dylan Thomas, the third-place finisher in the English Derby, defeated Italian Derby winner Gentlewave to win the Irish Derby by 3 1/2 lengths Sunday at The Curragh. The victory by Dylan Thomas, the 9-2 favorite, was the fourth in the Irish Derby for trainer Aidan O'Brien and the second for jockey Kieren Fallon, who won last year's race on Hurricane Run. . . . Planet Holland, owned by R.D. Hubbard, Johnny T.L. Jones Jr., and B. Holmes, broke the world record for 350 yards with a 17.006-second victory in the Grade 3, $40,000 Higheasterjet Handicap on Saturday afternoon. The time beat the previous record of 17.057 seconds set by AB What a Runner when she won an allowance race on July 19, 2003.
