Canterbury Park will hold a handicapping contest on Claiming Crown Day, July 15, with a guaranteed first prize of $50,000 and the top three finishers earning an entry to the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas. Entry fee is $1,000, plus a live bankroll of $1,000 to wager on the contest races. . . . Los Alamitos has raised purses 10 to 12 percent for its Thoroughbred races, effective Thursday. The highest purse, for $5,000 claimers, will be $10,750 when races draw 10 starters. . . . Prince Arch, winner of last year's Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Handicap, has been retired due to an ankle problem, Thoroughbred Times has reported. Stud plans hadn't been set for the 5-year-old Prince Arch, who earned $609,186.
