Espeedytoo, 'Imajones' in rematch

SUNLAND PARK, N. M. - On Sunday, Espeedytoo looks to avenge her loss to Lord Imajones in SunRay Park's Aztec Oaks in the $125,000-added La Coneja.

The La Coneja at 5 1/2 furlongs is restricted to New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies and has drawn a field of nine.

She rebounded quickly from that loss at SunRay to beat older horses in the New Mexico State Racing Commis-sion Handicap at Sunland Park six days later. Although she will carry 126 pounds in the La Coneja, five more than Lord Imajones, she is sure to be the favorite. She has an impressive 8-4-0 record from 15 starts, and is the top money earner on the New Mexico circuit this year with $242,554.

Espeedytoo and Lord Imajones both have good early speed and the race could well turn into a match race. Espeedytoo worked a three furlongs in 35.60 seconds here on Dec. 17 and looks to be ready for trainer Carl Dyer. Regular rider Travis Wales has the mount.

Lord Imajones, owned by Wyona Noel and trained by her husband, Bob, is out to prove her win in the Aztec Oaks was no fluke. She went off at 19-1 that day and won by seven lengths. Lord Imajones has not raced since, but worked five furlongs in 1:01.60 here on Dec. 15.

Tef's Porche is the dark horse in the race. She is 3 for 3 but races in a stakes and beyond 4 1/2 furlongs for the first time on Sunday.
