Error in order of finish in Wednesday race

Delaware Park recalculated the payoffs for its first race on Wednesday after stewards initially posted the wrong order of finish based on an erroneous interpretation of the photo for second and third place, the track said on Wednesday night.

The order of finish in the six-horse race was initially listed with the No. 4 horse, Willful Warrior, in second by a nose and the No. 6 horse, Willie Wears Pink, in third. The order was reversed following a review of the video and photo, the track said. In a release, Delaware Park said “the position of the horses’ heads in the photo-finish pictures created an optical illusion as to which horse finished second and third.”

The race was won by 7-10 favorite Uncle Leo by four lengths.

Chris Sobocinski, the track’s racing information coordinator, said the revised payoffs were not posted until after the Wednesday card had ended. While the track is honoring all tickets for both the initial order of finish and the revised order of finish, Delaware is still coordinating with account-wagering sites to allow for automatic payoffs for customers with winning wagers in their queues, Sobocinski said.

“We’re still working out logistical issues with that,” Sobocinski said.

Under the recalculated payoffs, Willie Wears Pink paid $4.60 to place. The revised $1 exacta paid $7.60, compared with $6 under the initial posting, and the revised $1 trifecta paid $19.10, compared with $17.90. The revised $1 superfecta paid $30.60, identical to the first posting.

The chart of the race, produced by Equibase, listed the correct order of finish but the initial payoffs as posted by the track.
