Erroneous I D wins Sport City

Bossier City, La. - Erroneous I D ($12.40), a wire-to-wire winner of his last start in optional claiming company, changed tactics Saturday afternoon and rallied strongly from off the pace to win the $75,000 Sport City Handicap at Louisiana Downs, lowering the course record in the process. Left in the winner's wake was One Tuff Fox, who finished four and a half lengths further back followed by Waupaca and Northern Scene. Cajole and Mauk Four were late scratches.

The winner is trained by Pat Mouton and was cleverly ridden by Don Simington who has been on a roll of late on the turf as the journeyman rider won twice over the local lawn on Friday. The winning time of 1:41.17 lowered the previous standard for the mile and a sixteenth distance over the John Franks Turf Course. Clever Song set the previous record of 1:40.20 back in 1985.

"Breaking the course record is just a bonus," Mouton said tongue in cheek after the race. "Winning the race is the important thing. We don't get paid any extra for track records."
