HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Ermine won a stakes in her first start against winners on Saturday, when she drove to a three-length win over 4-5 favorite Brownie Points in the $75,000 Honeybee at Oaklawn Park.

The mile and a sixteenth race for 3-year-old fillies was a prep for the Grade 2, $250,000 Fantasy here on April 14, and that will likely be the next start for Ermine, said her trainer, Ronny Werner.

Ermine ($13.80), who won her maiden in February, settled in about three lengths off the pace in second as Morner led the field though an opening quarter in 23.15 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.80 for the half-mile mark. Ermine closed in on the leader's advantage on the final turn, drew even with Morner past the quarter pole, and went on, covering the distance over a fast track in 1:44.48.

"We had a great trip," said Calvin Borel, who rode the winner. "We tracked the leader to the top of the lane and when I saw Luis [Quinonez] on my outside with [Brownie Points] I asked my filly for more and she responded. She ran a very powerful race."

Morner finished third in the Honeybee, three and a half lengths behind Brownie Points. The remaining order of finish was Baghdaria, Kat Nan Do and Best Mom.

Ermine is owned by Oxbow Racing LLC. She earned $45,000 for her win in the Honeybee, which second career victory in five starts. Ermine has now earned $79,700. She is a daughter of Exchange Rate.
