Equipment change works for Jiggs Coz

Jiggs Coz ($7.50) improved significantly with blinkers off in Saturday's $126,600 Display Stakes at Woodbine, winning the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds by 1 3/4 lengths under David Clark.

Jiggs Coz raced six lengths off the lead in third on the backstretch, as C J's Lightning set rapid fractions of 23.70 seconds and 47.55 seconds. C J's Lightning began to shorten stride on the far turn, and Jiggs Coz and Approval Rating hit the front in unison at the head of the stretch.

Jiggs Coz kicked clear from Approval Rating in the final furlong, and prevailed over a closing Acoustic Shadow, the 9-5 favorite. Approval Rating edged a charging Angel of the House for third in the nine-horse field.

Jiggs Coz wore blinkers in his other two starts, a maiden win and a third-place finish in the Coronation Futurity.

"With the blinkers off, he just chilled right out," said Clark. "He came off the bridle, and relaxed. He took me to the lead all on his own. I never really asked him, and when I did set him down, he responded great."

Jiggs Cozz completed the distance in 1:45.90. He earned $75,000 for Jim Dandy Stable and trainer Sid Attard, who won three races on the card.
