Equine Sales of Louisiana catalogs 174 for consignor select yearling sale

Equine Sales of Louisiana will kick off its second year of operation with its consignor select yearling sale, featuring a catalog of 174 horses.

The one-day sale will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, beginning at 10 a.m. Central in Opelousas, La.

With a second, open yearling sale scheduled for later in the year, the consignor select auction catalog is 38 percent smaller than last year’s inaugural book of 282 horses.

A total of 152 horses sold during the inaugural yearling auction for revenues of $1,268,700. The average sale price was $8,347, while the median price was $4,200.

Former NFL quarterback Jake Delhomme’s Set-Hut Stables purchased the sale-topper, a Yankee Gentleman filly out of the winning Six Speed mare Satin Shoes, for $70,000. The dark bay or brown filly, a half-sister to two stakes winners and two stakes-placed runners, was consigned by Thomas Farm.
