Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana catalogs 143 for mixed auction

The Equine Sales Company of Louisiana has catalogued 143 horses to its open yearling and mixed auction to be held at its facilities in Opelousas, La., on Oct. 26. The book features 37 yearlings, 30 weanlings and 76 broodmares and horses of racing age. The auction house is also still accepting supplements to the sale, officials announced Wednesday.

The Equine Sales Co., began operating in 2012. The auction house is located near Evangeline Downs. Its yearling graduates include recent Grade 2 Super Derby winner Vicar’s in Trouble.

“This will be our third auction of the year after the successful debut of our 2-year-olds in-training sale in April and the second renewal of our Consignor Select yearling sale in September,” Foster Bridewell, sales director for the Equine Sales Co., said in a release. “We expect another strong auction in October, with a good mix of breeding and racing stock with some quality yearlings and weanlings.”

The group of weanlings includes a filly from the first crop of Star Guitar, a four-time Louisiana-bred horse of the year. The yearlings on offer include individuals from the first crops of Interactif, Paddy O’Prado, Tiz the One and Proudinsky. There are also yearlings by Into Mischief, Half Ours, D’Wildcat and Closing Argument. Of the broodmares available, more than 50 have been confirmed in foal to such stallions as El Corredor, More Than Ready, Songandaprayer and Tale of the Cat.
