Equine herpesvirus positive at Laurel Park

According to multiple horsemen, there was a positive test for the equine herpesvirus at Laurel Park on Friday.

Track officials did not immediately respond to voice or text messages Friday night, but the reported positive could affect this weekend's races.

The Saturday card has already lost five horses stabled at Belmont Park due to an ongoing quarantine for the equine herpesvirus at that track.

Additionally, 25 other horses entered at Laurel on Saturday were stabled at other facilities in the region – eight at Parx Racing, eight at Fair Hill, four at Pimlico, two at Penn National, two at Mahoning Valley, and one at Charles Town. It was not clear Friday night if those horses would be allowed to return to their home tracks if they entered the Laurel stable area.

On Friday evening, Penn National notified its horsemen that horses shipped to Laurel would not be allowed to return to Penn.
