England: The Fugue preps for English Oaks in Musidora at York

The Fugue, a Dansili filly who was fourth in the English 1000 Guineas on May 6, starts in Wednesday’s Group 3 Musidora Stakes at York Racecourse, a prep for the English Oaks at Epsom Downs on June 1.

Trained by John Gosden, The Fugue was 12-1 in future-book betting for the English Oaks over the weekend. The filly has made two starts, having won a maiden race in her debut last fall.

The Musidora is run over about 1 5/16 miles and drew a field of six. Twirl, second in the Group 3 Lodge Stakes at the Curragh in Ireland on March 25, is trainer Aidan O’Brien’s only entrant. Twirl was 14-1 in the English Oaks future book last weekend.

Good Morning Star, a 50-1 upset winner of the Cheshire Oaks on May 9, makes a quick turnaround for trainer Mark Johnston. The Cheshire Oaks was Good Morning Star’s first stakes win in her ninth start.

The seven-race York program also features the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes over six furlongs.

Hoof It, a 5-year-old gelding, who won the 27-runner Stewards’ Cup over six furlongs at Goodwood last summer, is expected to go favored in a field of 14.
