Emerald: Sky Jack sets records in Longacres

AUBURN, Wash. - Sky Jack won the Grade 3, $250,000 Longacres Mile with a bravura performance, blistering the mile in a track-record 1:33 to score by a stakes-record 6 1/4 lengths over 6-1 shot Poker Brad. Canadian invader Lord Nelson got third at 24-1.

Sent off as the 3-2 favorite under Russell Baze in a field of 10, Sky Jack dueled with Handy N Bold through six furlongs in 1:08.20 before asserting his class at the head of the stretch. Sky Jack, a 7-year-old son of Jaklin Klugman who races for Ren-Mar Thoroughbreds, earned $137,500 to push his career earnings to $1,115,127. He has 10 wins in 18 starts, all under trainer Doug O'Neill.

* In the $100,000 Emerald Breeders' Cup Distaff on the Mile Day undercard, Infernal McGoon came from well back under jockey Juan Gutierrez to score by two lengths over Tamarack Bay in 1:34.40 for a mile. Strikes No Spares got up for third.

Trained by Grant Forster for Jody Peetz's One Horse Will Do Corp., Infernal McGoon paid $17.80 to win in her second victory in 14 career starts. She earned $41,250 to boost her career earnings to $121,955.
