Emerald Derby rivals meet again

Three runners that found the competition too steep in the Emerald Downs Derby return against easier competition in Emerald's Thursday feature, a one-mile allowance race for 3-year-olds.

Sea Speaker, fourth in the Sept.o1 Derby at 1 1/8 miles, Way Too Much, who was fifth, and Anotation, who faded to sixth, will have three other rivals in Thursday's race.

Sea Speaker carried sharp form into the derby with a pair of seconds followed by a victory in a one-mile $40,000 optional claimer. He ran evenly in the derby, which was run only eight days after his victory.

Way Too Much stalked the pace in the derby before fading in the lane. He, too, went into the derby coming off a victory at a mile.

Anotation won at a mile, then ran third in the Seattle Slew on Aug 3. He was favored in the derby, moved up to second at the six-furlong mark, and then faded.

Anotation may hold an edge Thursday since he has defeated Sea Speaker and Way Too Much at this distance.

Anotation has decent speed, but the pace could be hotly contested, especially with the speedy Eternal Wind breaking from the outside.
