Elusive Thought takes Fury Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Elusive Thought shook loose on a clear lead and was never headed in Sunday's $162,750 Fury Stakes, a seven-furlong dash for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Jim McAleney rode Elusive Thought, who set slow fractions of :23.33 and :46.71 seconds over a track which was kind to speed. She held off a closing Mountain Dawn to win by a length, in a final time of 1:24.10.

"It worked out well for us," said McAleney. "She was running well on the lead, with her ears pricked. It was just a matter of how far we were going to go."

Elusive Thought ($11.90) earned $97,650 in her first stakes triumph for trainer Reade Baker, who owns her in partnership with Janis Maine.

Buffalo Jump, who stalked the pace, edged favored Brattothecore for third. Miss Crissy and Alpha Saphire completed the order of finish.
