Elusive Jazz wins the 153rd running of the Grade 3, $266,500 Phoenix BC Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday.

The Breeders' Cup Sprint might have gotten a new shooter when Elusive Jazz ($17) sped to his first stakes victory in the 153rd running of the Grade 3, $266,500 .

Ridden by Robby Albarado, Elusive Jazz laid just off the pace before looping the leading pack and quickly drawing off entering the stretch. He finished three lengths ahead of late-running Wild Tale, a 21-1 shot, in winning for the fourth time in 14 career starts. Premium Saltine was third, while Fifteen Rounds (5-2) was fifth and Bwana Charlie (2-1) was seventh in a field of eight.

Trainer Bobby Barnett said he would "see how the horse comes out of this before we make any decisions about the Breeders' Cup. This horse has really been sharp lately. Things worked out our way today."

Elusive Jazz, a 4-year-old Elusive Quality colt owned by the Stony Oak Farm of Jim Phelps, finished six furlongs in 1:11.60. In his closest previous finish in a stakes, he was beaten a neck by Fifteen Rounds in the Aug. 27 Arlington BC Handicap.
