Elocution keeps traveling

Elocution, winner of the Mountaineer Juvenile Filly Stakes and a participant in the Grade 1 Frizette last year as a 2-year-old, will make her 2008 stakes debut Saturday night in the $60,000 Hallowed Dreams Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Elocution will face six rivals in the 5 1/2-furlong feature for 3-year-old fillies.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Elocution most recently finished second in a second-level allowance at Oaklawn Park on March 2. That was her first start since she was off the board against the Eclipse Award-winning Indian Blessing in the Frizette at Belmont Park in early October.

In her 2008 debut, Elocution dueled through early fractions of 21.94 and 45.44 seconds before giving way to winner Palanka City, who covered the six furlongs in 1:09.90, one of the fastest times at the distance for the Oaklawn meeting. Palanka City earned a 96 Beyer Speed Figure.

Donnie Meche will ride the well-traveled Elocution, who will be making her eighth start over her eighth different racetrack.

Asmussen has another strong contender in Diamondaire, who will race uncoupled with Elocution. Diamondaire fits well in this spot, based on her fourth-place finish in the $100,000 Tiffany Lass Stakes at Fair Grounds in early January. Diamondaire has won 2 of 4 starts and will be ridden by Gerard Melancon, who posted a record 145 wins at the recently concluded Delta Downs meeting.

Others in the field include Queen Rolex, a two-time winner at Fair Grounds over the winter for trainer Connie Tassistro, and Tensas Gray Girl, an improving filly who defeated maidens by two lengths at Delta on March 12.
