Elmhurst, winner of '97 BC Sprint, relocating to Kentucky retirement home

Email

Elmhurst, millionaire winner of the 1997 Breeders’ Cup Sprint for Evergreen Farm and trainer Jenine Sahadi, will relocate from California to the Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Ky. A 21-year-old Wild Again gelding, Elmhurst has been under the care of Rocking Horse Ranch in El Cajon, Calif., since 2008.

Brook Ledge Horse Transportation has donated more than half the cost to ship Elmhurst to Kentucky, and the Our Mims retirement center is seeking donations for the rest. More information is available at www.OurMims.org/elmhurst.html.

Elmhurst also won the Grade 3 Ancient Title in 1997 and the Flying Continental in 1996 and placed in three other stakes. He also set a track record at Hollywood Park in June 1997 when he won a 7 1/2-furlong allowance race in 1:26.60.

Elmhurst left the races in 1999 with earnings of more than $1.1 million from 51 starts. Bred by Calumet Farm, he is out of the Raise a Native mare Mimbet, a daughter of Calumet’s 1977 champion filly Our Mims, for whom OMRH is named. OMRH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit chartered in 2007.
