Groupie Doll will make her first start of 2013 in Saturday's Grade 3, $100,000 Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park.

Groupie Doll was assigned post 2 in a field of 12 fillies and mares set to race Saturday in the Grade 3, $100,000 Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park in western Kentucky.

Groupie Doll, the 2012 female sprint champion, will be making her first start since being beaten a nose in the Cigar Mile in late November after winning her five prior starts by substantial margins. Rajiv Maragh, who has ridden her in her last seven starts, will be in from New York to ride once again.

The Gardenia, the annual showcase of the two-month summer meet at Ellis, is run at one mile out of a clubhouse-turn chute.

Among the competition for Groupie Doll are Awesome Flower (post 1, Victor Lebron), Ice Cream Silence (post 3, Brian Hernandez Jr.), Dixie Strike (post 4, Miguel Mena), and Twice the Lady (post 10, Ricardo Santana Jr.).

Post time for the Gardenia, the eighth of nine Saturday races, is 4:10 p.m. Central.
