Grade 1 winner Effinex will relocate to McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the 2018 breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of $10,000. The 6-year-old son of Mineshaft stood his debut season this year at Questroyal North in Stillwater, N.Y., for the same price. Effinex retired with nine wins in 28 starts for earnings of $3,312,950, with victories in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap, Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap, two editions of the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, and the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes. He finished second in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland and finished in the money in two consecutive runnings of the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes. Bred in New York by Dr. Russell Cohen, Effinex is the only foal out of the stakes-winning E Dubai mare What a Pear. He is from the family of Irish champion Malinowski and 1982 Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, the dam of Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.
