Eddington to stand at Claiborne

Email

Eddington, a Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed runner by Unbridled, will stand at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., at the end of his racing career.

Claiborne has purchased a quarter-interest in the 4-year-old Eddington from Willmott Stables. Owner Peter Willmott bought Eddington for $450,000 at the 2002 Keeneland July yearling sale. Trained by Mark Hennig, the colt has gone on to win a pair of graded stakes, the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap this season and the Grade 3 Calder Derby on turf last year. Eddington also finished third in the 2004 Preakness, Travers, and Wood Memorial, all Grade 1 races, and this year he finished third in the Donn Handicap, also a Grade 1 event. He has a lifetime record of 5-3-6 from 16 starts and more than $916,000 in earnings.

Eddington, out of the Chief's Crown mare Fashion Star, is tentatively expected to enter stud for the 2006 season.
