Easy victory for Bare Necessities

ALBANY, Calif. - Bare Necessities ($2.80) cruised to an easy five-length victory over Castling in the $64,050 Sacramento Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.

Bare Necessities sat five lengths off the pace of Bullish Miss in the one-mile race for older fillies and mares. She moved out on the second turn, easily taking the lead while expanding the margin through the stretch. Her winning time was 1:35.89.

"She was a little nervous in the paddock, then ran her eyeballs out," winning trainer Wally Dollase said. "She got a perfect ride. I said to stay back and let her run down the stretch."

Bare Necessities had run against Got Koko in both her 2003 starts, finishing third in the Grade 2 El Encino and fourth in the Grade 2 La Canada.

"This will do her good," said Dollase, who will start her next at Keeneland. "We have some high hopes for her. Every race she seems to get better. We'll find some spots for her."

Bare Necessities earned $33,450 to lift her career total to $365,556 with four victories in 12 starts.
