Early Barretts leader at $20K

A 3-year-old Flying Continental filly from the family of graded winner Stalcreek was the early session leader Tuesday as the Barretts June 2-year-old and horses of racing age sale got under way in Pomona, Calif.

The single-session auction was only about an hour old by 5:30 p.m. Eastern, and most of the 226-horse catalog was left to sell. At that point, the $20,000 Flying Continental filly Broadway Starlet was the highest-priced lot, selling to trainer Dale Baird. The daughter of Lady Manhattan, by Mt. Livermore, was a late racing-age supplement to the catalog. Eleven horses age 3 and up were supplemented late, as were 10 juveniles.

Mary Knight, agent, consigned Broadway Starlet. The filly was unraced at 2 and has made two starts this year. Pat Gallagher previously trained California-bred Broadway Starlet for Super Horse Inc. Her race record stands as 2-0-0-1, and her earnings are $2,800.
