This Is an Eagle prevails in Sam Houston Futurity

This Is an Eagle dueled and prevailed for a half-length win over Ja Am I Blue in the Grade 2, $483,600 Sam Houston Futurity on Saturday night.

The race was one of three Quarter Horse stakes on the card at Sam Houston.

This Is an Eagle ($4.40) was on the pace throughout, and covered 330 yards on a fast track in 16.54 seconds.  Francisco Calderon was aboard for trainer Leon Bard.

The race was one of two stakes wins on the card for the team. Calderon and Bard also won the consolation, the $48,360 Sam Houston Juvenile, with Daddys Blushing ($10.40).

This Is an Eagle races for Mary Thompson. Daddys Blushing is owned by Gary Hartstack.

The Sam Houston Futurity was the richest race of the meet at Sam Houston.

In the Grade 3, $197,700 Sam Houston Derby, So Rapido was a neck winner over Maxx. So Rapido covered 350 yards on a fast track in 17.44 seconds. He paid $16.40. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the winner for Rachuan Suarez and trainer Judd Kearl.
