'D'Wildcat' looks even better on dirt

D'Wildcat Speed may not need any help to win the $100,000 Aspidistra Handicap at Calder on Saturday. But she might get some anyway.

The Aspidistra, for fillies and mares, is scheduled for a mile on the turf, a surface on which D'Wildcat Speed has never run. But with a tropical storm forecast to sweep through the Miami area Friday, there's a good chance the Aspidistra will be switched to the main track, and that's D'Wildcat Speed's game.

D'Wildcat Speed has won 6 of 7 on a wet track. Class-wise, she lays over the other eight entered in the Aspidistra and probably wouldn't need to be at her best to win.

If it's on the dirt, that is.

On the turf, D'Wildcat Speed could have her hands full. R Obsession used her usual stretch run to take the Ms Brookski on the Calder turf in her last start, July 3. With speedsters You Glitter Girl and Wekiva Mist entered in the Aspidistra, R Obsession should have every chance to get the job done.
