Due to Win captures Cornucopia

Bossier City, La. - Validating her class advantage and highweight status, Due to Win outdueled Boomboomgirl down the stretch to capture Saturday's Cornucopia Handicap at Louisiana Downs. Dyna Del finished a nonthreatening third followed by Float and Sting. The race was contested over a sloppy maintrack after heavy rains forced the race to be moved off the turf course.

Trained by Howard Scarberry for himself and wife Penny, Due to Win ($6.60) was ridden by Francisco Torres and rallied from just off the pace to win by an expanding two and three quarter lengths in a time of 1:49.12 for the mile a sixteenth. The win was the 9-year-old veteran mare's third stakes win of year having accounted for the Fleur de Lis here in May and the Matron Handicap at Evangeline in her most recent start. She has now earned just over $472,000 in her illustrious 84 race career.
