Due To Win best in Delicada

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Overcoming a slow pace, Elvera Scarberry's Due To Win lived up to her name in Sunday's Delicada Stakes by rallying from last to first.

Pacesetter Blue Guru held on for second while McKinney, who was forced to steady in traffic inside the furlong marker, settled for third.

Luis Quinonez was content to see all four rivals on board the winner as Blue Guru carved out early fractions of :25.63 and :50.97. Quinonez angled Due to Win out four wide after three quarters in 1:15.62 and quickly challenged on the outside when straightened for home. The winner won by a length in a time of 1:46.12 for the mile and a sixteenth over a fast track.

The victory was the second this season for Due To Win, who is trained by Edward Ruiz, as she also accounted for the Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn the first week in April. She picked up $24,000 for her connections and has now earned just under $290,000 in her 58-race career.
