Music Chart, a filly by Exchange Rate who sold for $230,000 at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale, won her stakes debut in Thursday’s United Arab Emirates 1000 Guineas Trial at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Ridden by Mickael Barzalona for trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni, Music Chart closed from the back of the field of 10 3-year-old fillies to finish three-quarters of a length in front of Shuruq, an Elusive Quality filly bred in Kentucky.
The first two finishers are owned by the Maktoum family’s Godolphin Racing. More Than Sotka, a stakes winner in France last year, finished third.
Music Chart ran seven furlongs in 1:24.59. She has won 2 of 3 starts, beginning her career with a win in a maiden race at Newmarket, England, last August. The UAE 1000 Guineas Trial was her first start since a fourth in a conditions race at Ascot last September.
The race is a prep for the $250,000 UAE 1000 Guineas on Feb. 7.
John Ferguson, an advisor to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, signed the purchase ticket on Music Chart at Saratoga in 2011.
Best Bets
GHOSTLY APPEAL has been on the sidelines for more than nine months. She'll be hard to deny on the drop from $12,500 N2L to $5,000 N2L if she's ready to roll in her return. WINTER ROCKET made up ground late, but still finished in the rear-half of the pack when she was overmatched against Louisiana-bred $12,500 N2L's in her return from a freshening. She'll be a factor in the exotics on the class drop to open $5,000 N2L. SHE'S BONAFIDE didn't show as much early speed as usual, then rallied to challenge for the lead.
