Email

Jim Dunleavy, the Mid-Atlantic correspondent for the Daily Racing Form, has been selected for the Old Hilltop Award, an annual award presented by the Maryland Jockey Club “for covering Thoroughbred racing with excellence and distinction.”

Dunleavy, who has worked in a variety of roles at the Form since being hired in 1982, will be presented with the award on May 18 during the Alibi Breakfast, an annual event held in conjunction with the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The Maryland Jockey Club, a subsidiary of the privately owned company The Stronach Group, owns and operates Pimlico and its sister track in Maryland, Laurel Park.

Dunleavy returned to the field as a correspondent in 2014 after serving more than two decades in the Form’s editorial department. He began his career in California in 1982 as part of the Form’s track crew.

Dunleavy will be honored along with three other award winners: photographer Jim McCue, who will be given the MJC’s Special Award of Merit; Joe Clancy, the editor of the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, who will receive the MJC’s David F. Woods Memorial Award for excellence in journalism for the second time; and Rob Carr, a photographer with Getty Images who will receive the Jerry Frutkoff Memorial Award for a photo of Exaggerator winning last year’s Preakness.
