DRF tournament site launched

Daily Racing Form announced the formal launch of its new tournament platform today, creating a one-stop destination for all NHCQualify, BCQualify, and DRFQualify online qualifying tournaments. The new platform – tournaments.drf.com – instantly becomes a major player in the world of online horse racing qualifying events, a single destination where players can win seats to racing’s most prestigious tournaments, including the National Handicapping Championship, Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge, and numerous live racetrack events including the upcoming Pick Your Prize contest at Monmouth, Belmont Betting Challenge, and Santa Anita’s Gold Cup Challenge.

Notably, by running events that feed a major marketing initiative – the NHC – and live bankroll qualifying tournaments sanctioned by racetrack partners, DRF Tournaments is paying back into the racing industry in a meaningful way.

Players now have a single login for all DRF-run tournaments and will be able to use their credits interchangeably for any contest they want to enter. In addition to weekly qualifying events, tournaments.drf.com will feature a growing slate of low-priced daily feeder tournaments allowing participation in multiple tournaments per day. The site, which was desgined for players on the go, is mobile responsive and provides a real-time contest leaderboard. Moreover, players can easily navigate between DRF.com and the tournament site to access handicapping tools and DRF’s racing content to enhance their tournament play.

“Creating a unified platform for all of these tournaments is a major innovation for players and our tournament partners,” said John Hartig, Chairman and CEO of Daily Racing Form.  “Elevating the player experience and expanding tournament play are key goals, reflecting DRF’s long-term commitment to the tournament space. We developed this new site with the player in mind and designed it to encourage more activity among existing players and to attract new players to Thoroughbred racing, which tournaments have proven to be successful at accomplishing.”

Ken Kirchner, an industry veteran who has run NHCQualify.com and BCQualify.com for many years, will now oversee Daily Racing Form’s tournament operations in the newly created full-time position of Senior Vice President, DRF Tournaments. Kirchner has been a racing executive for 28 years and a leading proponent and innovator of horse racing tournaments. Since 1996, Kirchner has served as the President of Falkirk International, a consulting company clients have included Breeders’ Cup, NTRA, TVG, Keeneland, Boyd Gaming, Penn National Gaming, Woodbine Entertainment Group, Betfair, and Daily Racing Form. Kirchner also served as Senior Vice President of the NTRA and Breeders’ Cup from 2002-2007.

“I am thrilled to join Daily Racing Form,” said Kirchner, “especially as we embark on an even deeper commitment to the tournament business. The launch of this new tournament platform will greatly expand our ability to reach horseplayers and to make qualifying for the National Handicapping Championship and the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge more accessible to existing and new racing fans.”

The weekday feeders will utilize the all-in format, where all of a players’ picks must be in before the first race. The all-in format places a premium on picking winners, and is easier to manage for many players during the week when they are likely to have other committments. The first feeders up on the site will have eight races over two tracks, and free Daily Racing Form past performances will be available.
