DRF hires Fornatale as tournament editor

Daily Racing Form announced Tuesday that Peter Thomas Fornatale has joined the company in the newly created role of tournament editor.

In this capacity, Fornatale will expand his popular tournament blog on DRF.com, preview weekend tournaments, and create new content to engage and educate horseplayers about handicapping tournaments by showcasing strategies and tips, as well as profiling winning tournament players.

“We are thrilled to welcome Pete to Daily Racing Form,” said John Hartig, chairman and chief executive of DRF.  “We view tournaments as a compelling and exciting way for horseplayers of all skill levels to play the game, and Pete’s in-depth tournament coverage will arm both new and seasoned horseplayers with the knowledge and confidence they need to successfully compete. As tournaments continue to attract new players to the game, DRF will continue investing in the creation of new forms of contests and integrating them into the online playing experience at DRF.com.”

“We are excited about bringing Pete’s expertise to our expanding tournament businesses, particularly for the online efforts at NHCQualify.com and BCQualify.com,” said Kenneth E. Kirchner, tournament director for DRF.

NHCQualify.com is the official online qualifying site for the $1.8 million DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, and BCQualify.com is the official online qualifying site for the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge. DRF also offers tournaments on Publichandicapper.com and a series of tournaments on its proprietary DRFBets wagering site.

“I've been writing about racing for 15 years, and it's an honor to join the Daily Racing Form, the bible for horseplayers, particularly in this exciting period of growth for the DRF and the contest world,” said Fornatale. “I look forward to working with Team DRF to help horseplayers learn more about contests, handicapping, and other rewarding aspects of the sport of Thoroughbred racing."

Daily Racing Form’s DRF Press division recently released "The Winning Contest Player," Fornatale’s book looking inside the mindset of tournament players. Fornatale interviews more than 30 of the country's best players and, with their assistance, lays out a complete plan to help win in handicapping contests, from the basics to endgame strategy. "The Winning Contest Player" retails for $24.95 hardcover and can be ordered at www.DRF.com and is also available as an ebook at Amazon.com, iBooks and BN.com.
