Dreamsandvisions the standout

Email

Dreamsandvisions finished just two lengths behind Grade 2 winner Beau's Town in a stakes last time out, which makes him a standout Saturday night when he returns to the Texas-bred ranks for the $40,000 Spring Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston.

The seven-furlong race drew a field of 11, among them stakes winners Charming Socialite and Nuttyboom, the runner-up in last year's Spring Stakes.

Dreamsandvisions rallied from seven lengths back to finish fourth in the $50,000 King Cotton, won by Beau's Town at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 4. Before that race, Dreamsandvisions was third, beaten just three-quarters of a length by Rodeo's Castle and Beau's Town, in the $274,000 Kenner Breeders' Cup at the Fair Grounds meet at Louisiana Downs on Jan. 14.

Dreamsandvisions is returning to arguably his best distance in the Spring. Perfect in two starts at seven furlongs, he won the $40,000 Conroe at Sam Houston on Dec. 3 the last time he raced at the distance.

Dreamsandvisions also won an entry-level allowance at seven furlongs at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 4.

Trainer Steven Duke has given the mount to Bobby Walker Jr.

Charming Socialite comes into the Spring off a third-place finish in the $40,000 Jersey Village at 1 1/16 miles on turf Feb. 4. He has worked sharply in preparation for the cutback in distance, going five furlongs in 59.80 seconds March 5 and a half-mile in 48.80 seconds March 14. Trainer Bill Pettit has given the mount to Larry Taylor.

Nuttyboom returns to the Texas-bred ranks after finishing fourth last out in an optional claimer at the Fair Grounds meet on Jan. 6. Trainer Ralph Irwin has given the mount to Filemon Rodriguez.
