Dreaming of Anna gets off schneid

Dreaming of Anna was more workmanlike than brilliant on Saturday at Arlington Park, but at last she won this time.

Last year's champion 2-year-old filly, Dreaming of Anna had lost all three of her 2007 starts before breaking through in the Double Delta, a one-mile overnight turf stakes that scratched down from 10 entries to six starters.

Getting a perfect trip under Rene Douglas, Dreaming of Anna pressed an even pace set by Devil House, tugging on the reins as Douglas kept her off the lead as long as he could. Devil House led through a half-mile in 48.71 seconds, and midway around the far turn, Douglas let Dreaming of Anna out a notch, and she took the lead.

There was no explosive stretch burst, but Dreaming of Anna put away the middle-moving challengers, and easily held safe a mild late run from Nice Inheritance, who wound up second, with Lemonline third.

Dreaming of Anna, trained by Wayne Catalano for owner-breeder Frank Calabrese, paid $2.80 to win, and was timed in 1:37.96 for a mile on firm turf.
