Dream of Angels wins Middleground


Dream of Angels rallied through the stretch to win his maiden in the $65,000 Middleground Breeders' Cup for 2-year-olds on the closing day card at Lone Star Park on Sunday. He was 18-1 and won by a neck over 24-1 outsider Spoonerism, who finished a neck in front of 70-1 longshot Axel Pegasus.

Real Quiet Man finished fourth at 5-1 to complete a $2 superfecta payoff of $39,864. The trifecta paid $6,020.

Dream of Angels ($39) broke well and settled about two lengths off leaders Devils Warrior and Mary's Gray Boy, who went at it through fractions of 21.57 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.36 for the half-mile mark. Dream of Angels began to pick up steam on the turn, came four wide into the stretch and accelerated, covering the six furlongs in 1:11.15.

Richard Eramia rode the winner for trainer John Locke.

Dream of Angels earned $39,000 for the victory, which came in his third career start. He is a son of Grade 1 winner Trippi and the stakes-winning mare Burn Brightly. Dream of Angels races for Kevin Halter.
