Doyouwanttodance digs deep in Hallowed Dreams

BOSSIER CITY, La.- Doyouwanttodance turned in another resilient performance at Louisiana Downs on Saturday, when she fought off a determined Precious Kiss to win the $75,000 Hallowed Dreams Breeders’ Cup.

The race was the richest of four stakes on the card worth a total of $225,000.

Doyouwanttodance ($10.20) dueled with Steamy Ridge through fractions of 22.59 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.28 for the half-mile in the 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares. Doyouwanttodance shook that rival, then withstood a late bid from Precious Kiss for a half-length win, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:17.33.

"When that horse came to her, about the sixteenth pole, she just dug in and held her off," said Kirk LeBlanc, who rode Doyouwanttodance for trainer Ralph Irwin. "She's got a big old heart. She gives everything."

The Hallowed Dreams was the second standout win this meet from Doyouwanttodance. She went hoof-to-hoof with Steamy Ridge throughout a five-furlong allowance here June 29, and came back along the rail for the win. Doyouwanttodance races for her breeder, Melissa Cantacuzene. She has now won 7 of 13 starts and $175,950.

The Hallowed Dreams was one of two stakes wins on the card for LeBlanc. He also captured the $50,000 Princess for 2-year-old fillies on turf, when Smokin Again ($9.60) stalked a hot pace and overtook favorite Run Don’t Stroll for a 1 1/4-length win. The winner covered the five furlongs on firm turf in 56.69 seconds. Charles Hukill trains Smokin Again for Sharon Pittman.

Euphony takes DeBartolo Oaks

Euphony powered to a three-quarter-length win over Doc's Delight in the $50,000 Marie P. DeBartolo Oaks, giving her owner, Pin Oak Stable, and her trainer, Donnie Von Hemel, their third win in the race. The connections also won the DeBartolo in 2002 with Bedanken and in 2006 with Brownie Points.

Euphony ($6) settled in third early in the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies, as Do the Tiger was clear through fractions of 23.73 for the opening quarter and 48.15 for a half-mile. Euphony advanced on the final turn, put a head in front in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance in 1:36.50

"She ran great," said Cliff Berry, who was aboard Euphony. "She's a very smart 3-year-old filly. She reserved herself good today, and she went when she needed to. She's maybe got it figured out."

With the win, Euphony improved her record to 4-for-6. She has now earned $137,200.

* Zigaree ($7.20) remained perfect in two career starts when he closed from last to win the $50,000 Minstrel for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on turf. He won by a length and a quarter over Bertsgoldenmissile. Randall Toups rode Zigaree, who covered the distance in 57.03. Brandon Marks trains the winner for Whispering Oaks Farm.
