Doubly Fun one to catch in DeBartolo

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - With none in the field of seven appearing capable of dominating the race, Saturday's $75,000 Rose DeBartolo Memorial Stakes should result in a close finish. The DeBartolo Memorial is at nine furlongs for Ohio-bred fillies and mares.

The three betting favorites are likely to be Doubly Fun, Ms. Quimet, and Lady Cherie.

Doubly Fun is a 5-year-old multiple stakes-winning daughter of I'll Raise You One who was claimed by A.F. M. Stables for $40,000 out of a win on the Churchill Downs turf June 3. She was unplaced after a troubled trip in Kentucky in her lone start since being claimed.

Doubly Fun likes to run on or near the lead and will likely attempt to wire this field. Jeffrey Johnston will ride for trainer Kathy Jarvis. Doubly Fun will be coupled as an entry with Glorado.

Ms. Quimet, a multiple stakes winner, has a second-place finish and a pair of thirds in three starts this year. She should also race near the front throughout. Trainer Stephen Ford Jr. has engaged Scott Saito to ride Ms. Quimet.

Lady Cherie has a second and two fourth-place finishes in her last three starts, all stakes, and has proven she can get 1 1/8 miles. A little improvement off her recent efforts will put her in the hunt. Julio Felix will ride for trainer Michael W. Nance.
