Double Shuffle looks to close fast

Double Shuffle and Quiet Approach look like the ones to beat in the feature race at Northlands Park on Friday. The one-mile race for 3-year-olds running for a $25,000 claiming price drew seven horses and goes as the seventh race.

Double Shuffle is coming off of a third-place finish in the $25,000 Saskatchewan Derby won by Tease the Tiger at Marquis Downs on Sept. 5 and he should be happy returning to his home base. Trained by Robertino Diodoro, Double Shuffle has won his last two starts at Northlands. Making his first start for Diodoro, who claimed him for $17,500 out of a winning race going one mile on Aug. 7, Double Shuffle scored an easy 3 1/4-length win in a $25,000 claimer on Aug. 14. Double Shuffle usually comes from off the pace, and there should be some speed to run at.

Quiet Approach, trained by Rod Cone, won the $50,000 Canadian Juvenile in his final start as a 2-year-old but has only been able to win a single race this year. After winning a first-level allowance race July 18, Quiet Approach finished third in the $50,000 Count Latham and sixth in the Grade 3, $300,000 Canadian Derby. In his latest start, he ran a dull race to finish fifth in the Saskatchewan Derby.
