Don'twaitforme leads from start to finish in Richmond Derby Trial

Dearest Princess establishes herself as the favorite for the B.C. Oaks by winning Monday's Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Don’twaitforme led every step of the way in the $53,546 Richmond Derby Trial at Hastings on Monday. The Derby Trial is the final prep for the Grade 3, $150,000 B.C. Derby on Sept. 26.

With Amadeo Perez aboard, Don’twaitforme ($8.80) broke on top in the 1 1/16-mile miles race and set modest fractions of 23.93 and 48.00. He held a half-length lead after six furlongs in 1:13.21 and took a 1 ½-length lead into the stretch. Don’twaitforme was ridden out while drawing off to win by 3 ¼ lengths over the 5-2 favorite Cherokee Notion. Ain made a late move to finish third in the 10-horse field.

Trained by Rob Van Overschot, Don’twaitforme posted a final time of 1:43.99 over a track rated sloppy.

* Earlier on the card, Dearest Princess established herself as the early favorite for the $75,000 B.C. Oaks on Sept. 25 with a one-length victory over Otero in the $52,831 Hong Kong Jockey Club.

With Fernando Perez aboard, Dearest Princess was eased off a quick pace and then made a strong late move to pass Otero in the late stretch. Final time for 1 1/16 miles was 1:45.16.

Trained by Mel Snow, Dearest Princess paid $6.20 as the favorite in the nine-horse field.

* In the $26,754 PNE President's Speed, Boundless Cat ($20.20) got up in the last jump to nose out Cardinal Zin. Trained by Steve Henson and ridden by Richard Hamel, Boundless Cat posted a final time of 1:10.58 in the six-furlong sprint.
