Donna Blini upsets in Cheveley Park

Donna Blini sprung a 12-1 upset in the Group 1, $300,000 Cheveley Park Stakes for juvenile fillies at Newmarket on Thursday as she held off the late charges of both Wake Up Maggie and Flashy Wings.

Donna Blini got her third victory in four starts, having taken the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes last out on July 5. Always prominent under Michael Kinane, she prevailed by a neck over Wake Up Maggie, with the 9-5 favorite and Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Flashy Wings another neck back in third. Trained by Brian Meehan, Donna Blini covered the straight six furlongs in 1:10.88 on good ground.

Later Thursday, Aidan O?Brien scored yet another juvenile group race victory with Aussie Rules. A Danehill colt, Aussie Rules rallied in traffic at 3-1 to defeat Killybegs by a short head in the Group 3, $106,000 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes, getting the seven furlongs in 1:23.44.

* On Saturday at Newmarket, Maids Causeway returns to action for trainer Barry Hills in the Group 1, $340,000 Sun Chariot Stakes. Maids Causeway has been absent with a pulled back muscle since winning the Group 1 Coronation Stakes on June 17 at Royal Ascot at York.

Maids Causeway can take this filly-and-mare mile at the expense of Chic, winner of the Group 2 Celebration Mile, and Favourable Terms, last year?s Group 1 Nassau Stakes winner who returned from a 15-month absence on Sept. 8 to land a seven-furlong listed race at Doncaster.
