Distinguish captures Brother Brown


Distinguish overtook Sweepingly nearing the wire for a half-length win in the $50,000 Brother Brown Stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma City on Saturday night. It was another length back in third to Proven Cure.

Distinguish ($43) was making his turf debut in the five-furlong sprint, and sat in fifth early as Sweepingly led the field through fractions of 21.37 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.05 for the half-mile mark. Distinguish rallied through the stretch, and covered the distance in 55.97 seconds.

Justin Shepherd rode the winner for trainer Martin Lozano.

Distinguish earned $30,000 for the win, which was his fifth from 18 career starts. He has now earned $92,186. Distinguish races for Gary Owens, who won the owner title last year at Remington.

* Jockey Benny Landeros won the 1,000th Thoroughbred race of his career in the third, aboard Evening Reward ($16.60). The rider added to his total when he won the seventh aboard Big B's Prospect ($19.20).

* Remington opened its meet Friday night, and attendance for the program was 8,040. Last year, attendance for the track's opener was 2,699.
