Discreet Commander pops at 41-1

EmailOutsider Discreet Commander ($85.60) prevailed in a three-way win photo in Saturday's $127,000 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine.

Discreet Commander raced up front with Senor through slow fractions in the 1 1/16-mile event before taking control early in the stretch. Briarwood Circle rallied between horses, and Mighty Vow closed wide from well back, but Discreet Commander held on to score by a nose in a time of 1:45.20.

Mighty Vow was another nose back in third, and favored Globetrotter finished fourth in the 10-horse field. Turf War and Prairie Fox were scratched.

"On paper, it looked like he was the speed of the race," said Constant Montpellier, who rode Discreet Commander for trainer Arthur Silvera. "Arthur said if you had a little horse turning for home, go for it and try to steal it from the late closers. It worked out perfect."

Discreet Commander, who was coming off a front-running maiden win, banked $75,000 in his stakes debut.
