Disco Chick broke a 13-month losing streak on Saturday at Monmouth Park when she outbattled the brave New Jersey-bred Bustin Out in the $58,200 Regret Stakes.

The win was the fourth career stakes victory for 6-year-old Disco Chick, who had not won since the Pennsylvania-bred Foxy J. G. Stakes at Parx in June 2016. She had turned in some good efforts since that race, finishing second six times and dropping several close decisions.

In the Regret, Bustin Out showed her exceptional early speed, outsprinting Court Dancer, to the inside, and Disco Chick for the early lead in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares. Following a quarter-mile in 21.49, Disco Chick moved up outside Bustin Out, the 7-5 favorite.

The two dueled through a half-mile in a sizzling 43.56 before Disco Chick put her head in front in upper stretch. She edged away under jockey Hector Caballero to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

Court Dancer, who eased back off the leaders after the opening quarter, finished willingly to take second by 1 1/4 lengths over Bustin Out despite drifting out from a left-handed whip.

"I knew Bustin Out had a lot of speed, so I just wanted to break well and get my horse settled in a good position," Caballero said. "We were able to be on the outside and she put away the speed horse and had plenty left in the stretch."

Disco Chick paid $14.80 as the fourth choice in the five-horse field. She was timed in 1:09.69.

Disco Chick has been trained throughout her career by Mario Serey Jr., who is serving a medication suspension. The Regret was her second start for trainer Miguel Penaloza. In her start prior to the Regret, Disco Chick tired to finish 11th in the Satin N Lace Stakes over Tapeta at Presque Isle Downs.

Disco Chick is now 10 for 41 in her career with earnings of $729,250.
