Diamond Doc upsets Teagues Fight at Northlands

Diamond Doc upset heavily favored Teagues Fight in the colts and geldings division of the $50,000 Sales Stakes at Northlands Park on Saturday. With the track favoring speed, jockey Perry Winters had Diamond Doc sitting just off the pace while racing three wide. He moved up to engage the leaders at the five-eighths pole and then made the lead at the top of the stretch. Once in front, he was never threatened as he drew off to post a three-length win over Teagues Fight.

Sent off as the 3-5 favorite, Teagues Flight made a threatening move around the stretch turn, but he flattened out in the lane. He still managed to finish a clear second over Wood B Nice.

Diamond Doc, who is trained by Albert Strumecki paid $11.40 as the second choice in the wagering.

Final time for the six-furlongs over a fast track was 1:11.80.

Earlier on the card, Ubettorubet took advantage of the speed favoring surface to win the fillies and mares division of the Sales Stakes. With Real Simard aboard, Ubettorubet went right to the lead and cruised to an easy 4 1/4-length win over R Lucinda. R Lucinda chased Ubettorubet all the way around the track and finished three lengths clear of Bears Artiste. R Lucinda was the second choice in the wagering behind Minimus, 2-1, who finished fifth.

Ubetorubet paid $12. She set fractions of 23.40 and 47.40 seconds while on her way to a final time of 1:12.60 for the six furlongs.

She is trained by David Nicholson.
