Email

Devil House outdueled favorite Cat on a Cloud through the stretch to win her fourth straight race in the $50,000 Dixie Belle Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Oaklawn Park on Saturday. She won by a half-length over Cat on a Cloud, who finished 2o1/4 lengths clear of third-place runner Time's Mistress.

Devil House ($11.80) broke well and settled just off Cat on a Cloud, who led the field through fractions of 22.13 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.21 for the half-mile. Devil House engaged the leader approaching the quarter pole, and the two partook in a spirited duel for much of the stretch, with Devil House seemingly edging clear at the sixteenth pole, but Cat on a Cloud putting in another surge in the later stages. Devil House covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:11.63.

Terry Thompson rode the winner for trainer Terry Gestes, who is in his first season at Oaklawn.

Devil House won her maiden at Ellis Park in her second career start, then captured an allowance and the $100,000 Bassinet at River Downs in her three starts prior to the Dixie Belle. She earned $30,000 for the win Saturday, which improved her record to $122,765. Devil House, a daughter of Chester House, races for William Stiritz.
